Why Marton Bungalow?

In response to Mr Hargreaves letter, Marton Bungalow (above) was a popular venue for walkers and cyclists in the 1930’s. It was a thriving cafe attracting visitors from Middlesbrough and the nearby villages.

The Bungalow was timber built and had wicker chairs and tables inside and also on its verandah.

Day trippers to Stewarts Park on the opposite corner would pop across for coffee and ice cream. During the war long queues would form for cigarettes of which the Bungalow always seemed to have plenty.

A couple of miles further up the road at Ormesby Village, The Ormesby Bungalow played a similar role, dispensing refreshment. This timber building was also used for dances.
