| Remember Middlesbrough?
Many of our readers will recognise our top picture, but we suspect few will recall the bottom shot of Newport Road. Our top picture is of Newport Road in the thirties. It shows Binns original store which was burned down in 1942. Also on the right of the picture is The Grand Electric cinema and next door was the fashionable furniture store of Woodhouses. Opposite not in picture was the Scala cinema. Elsie’s was a well known Middlesbrough fruiterer. The bottom picture shows Newport Road in the 1920’s with the North Riding Infirmary on the right. Also on the right is Hartington Road. The open topped trams rattled their way from Middlesbrough to Stockton in the middle of the road.
