| Lightening strikes Captain Cook's monument
Some Conductor... We are indebted to Mr John Richardson of Great Broughton for this shot of Capt. Cook’s Monument after it had been struck by lightening. in 1960. The 51ft high tribute to the Cleveland explorer on Easby Moor was erected in 1827 in Cook’s honour by Mr Robert Campion the Lord of Easby Manor. Unfortuntely it was built without a lightening conductor. The reparation work was carried out by the Middlesbrough contracting firm of Arthur Robinsons.
